單模光纖(Single-mode Fiber):一般光纖跳線用黃色表示,接頭和保護套為藍色;傳輸距離較長。
多模光纖(Multi-mode Fiber):一般光纖跳線用橙色表示,也有的用灰色表示,接頭和保護套用米色或者黑色;傳輸距離較短。
光纖跳線兩端的光模塊的收發波長必須*,也就是說光纖的兩端必須是相同波長的光模塊,簡單的區分方法是光模塊的顏色要*。一般的情況下,短波光模塊使用多模光纖(橙色的光纖),長波光模塊使用單模光纖(黃色光纖),以保證數據傳輸的準確性。
光纖在使用中不要過度彎曲和繞環,這樣會增加光在傳輸過程的衰減。
光纖跳線使用后一定要用保護套將光纖接頭保護起來,灰塵和油污會損害光纖的耦合。

光纖跳線按端接類型分主要有以下三種類型:ST-ST、SC-SC、ST-SC。(主要街頭哦有FC, SC, ST, LC, MTRJ, MU,等等兩個接頭不一樣,就會使光纖跳線的類別別一樣)。按光纖種類分主要有單模光纖和多模光纖兩類。跳線長度的規格有0.5m、1m、2m、3m、5m、10m等。按線纜外護層材料可分為普通型、普通阻燃性、低煙無鹵型、低煙無鹵阻燃型等。按照插芯的類型可分為PC網絡級UPC APC電信級;所以就有許多不同的搭配了如SC/PC等等;根據光纖直徑可分為:0.9mm,2.0mm;3.0mm
根據建筑物防火等級和對材料的耐火要求,綜合布線系統應采取相應的措施。在易燃的區域和大樓豎井內布放電纜或光纜,應采用阻燃的電纜和光纜;在大型公共場所宜采用阻燃、低煙、低毒的電纜或光纜;相鄰的設備間或交接間應采用阻燃型配線設備。
