使機組的轉速下降，機組釋放出飛輪儲存的機械能，幫助電動機克服尖峰負荷。為了保護電動機以及減少電動機脈沖工作時對電網的沖擊，在裝置的實驗放電之前，必須在電動機轉子回路串入一個適當的電阻，也就是將活動電極提高到合適的高度（如圖1中KB所示）。當實驗放電完成之后，通過調節活動電極的高度使機組電流（I=230A）恒定，再加速到額定轉速1477r.p.m，然后自由加速。如此重復調速過程，直到實驗結束。
